My favourite place to write.

I am lucky enough to have a small study at home, which is where I do the majority of my writing and research. In the Summer if the weather is good, I’ll sometimes sit in the garden, but I need peace and quiet, especially when I’m working on my novel, and that’s not always possible during the school holidays.

I’ve never been one for sitting in a nearby café with a skinny latte and people watching whilst making copious notes. That’s not to say I don’t have notebooks – I have them in abundance: every colour, spiral, hardback, lined and unlined, plain ones and some with positive affirmations – I have them all. Actually, I unashamedly have pens to match every notebook.

Going back to my favourite place to write, my study is my haven and I love it. I have an all-in-one desktop, which sits on a solid oak writing desk. Obviously, I’m surrounded by books and stationery, but what writer isn’t!

I’d love to hear about your favourite places to write.

Like you, I need peace and quiet to write. I now have a room that I call The Writing Hub! It also doubles up as a spare room and it’s where my partner stores her massive tea towel collection!!

That’s a great name, Liz. It’s good you can both use the same room, although I’m guessing books take up more room than tea towels!

Hi I enjoyed this piece. I use my table in my lounge to do all my writing- as I live in a flat, the spare room is a spare for when the family visit. I like piece, but do enjoy lookign out the window to get some ideas when I’.m stuck.

Thank you, Jodie. It seems a few of us like peace and quiet when we write. It’s nice to have a window to watch the world go by and get ideas. Unfortunately, the view from my window is the roof of the house opposite 😐

I am posting this reply on behalf of a writing friend, Susan. It’s a great piece and I’m happy to share it with you all:

    THE WRITE PLACE

I like to imagine my writing friends at work in their homes or gardens (that encourages me when I’m stuck for an idea or neat phrase), so I’ll tell you where I write.

Some years ago, I set up a home office in my spare bedroom, but I prefer my favourite armchair in the sitting room with my laptop on a folding table in front of me. I took down the curtains so I could see the lights of the town below by night and the wooded hillsides and local mountains by day.

The flats can be noisy, but then I have no bad conscience about playing loud music on a Sunday morning. As I live alone and rarely do any work, I am becoming more and more carefree. It’s wonderful.

I’m a menace for keeping odd scraps of paper and defunct pens. I also have notebooks full of scribbled stuff I can’t understand, and I like café terraces in the sunshine.

The hardest aspect of writing, for me, is the admin associated with it, record keeping etc… and the organization of my computer files – not to mention the daily challenges of technology. More updates? Aaaargh.

Keep the ideas flowing – that’s the stuff of life!
