Happy Monday, everyone. Way back on 26 October 1965, The Beatles were presented with their MBE’s by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. They were nominated for the honour by the then Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.

Around 4,000 fans were there to catch a glimpse of the band as they arrives in John Lennon’s Rolls Royce. Police had to intervene to hold back the crowd. You can watch a video here.

Being a bass player, I admire McCartney a great deal; he played some fabulous bass lines on those Beatles’ hits. Come Together is a particular favourite of mine, it has a heavy, bluesy feel.

Some equerry to the Queen, a Guards officer, took us to one side and showed us what we had to do: ‘Approach Her Majesty like this and never turn your back on her, and don’t talk to her unless she talks to you.’ All of those things. For four Liverpool lads it was, ‘Wow, hey man!’ It was quite funny. But she was sweet. I think she seemed a bit mumsy to us because we were young boys and she was a bit older.
