A simpler time indeed!
Crikey! We don’t know how lucky we are with our efficient computers and devices! I have fond memories of those phones and my mum saying, “get off that phone!”
My Dad put a lock on our phone! I remember it was silver and you could still answer calls, but not make them.
🤣🤣
Ouch! What a finger trapper of a typewriter. Love the phone too but it took SO long to dial the Speaking Clock several times a day 🤣
Isn’t it, Lou. I used to work for BT and I was so excited to use an electric typewriter for the first time!
When we first had a phone in London, we had a “party line” – not the service it later became but a shared line with another subscriber. When you picked up the receiver If you found they were on the line you had to hang up and wait your turn. Bizarre.
I’ve bashed out a lot of office correspodence on a typewriter like that!
I operated a small plug and cord manual exchange for nearly ten years in remote outback Queensland Australia. We had several party lines with up to seven subscribers on each line. Those were the days indeed
Susan, that would have interesting. I would have been tempted to listen in on the calls.
I must be too old. These look like major parts of my life!! Especially the type writer!!
I’m glad the photo prompted good memories for you, Mary.
